Formed in 2005, the Successful Failures are still going strong. Pack Up Your Shadows, the New Jersey band’s eighth full-length studio album, will be released July 10, 2020 on the FDR label. But until that day arrives, “This Girl” offers a glimpse of what the eagerly awaited collection contains.
Sparked by a winsome jingle, “This Girl” proposes all the essential markings of a summer hit single. Flickerings of countrified fixings also attire the song, and the vocals are boyishly appealing. Defined hooks and sing-able melodies further provide substance to the proceedings.
As “This Girl” moves forward, power and momentum is increased, developing into a quick burst of rocking dynamics devised of chewy guitar riffs and brawny drum beats.
Sounding like a long-lost Big Star gem, “This Girl” pairs pop aspirations with roots-rock touches to positive perfection. Raw and authentic, the catchy tune stands as the ideal preview to an album that will no doubt include more of the similarly inclined goods we have come to expect from the Successful Failures.
