All of the reunion talk for Led Zeppelin, subsequent to their gala release of Celebration Day, seemed to center on the idea that Robert Plant wasn’t interested. Not true, says the erstwhile frontman.
“You know, the two other guys are Capricorns — and they don’t say a word,” Plant tells 60 Minutes Australia, in the attached video. “But they are quite contained in their own worlds — and they just leave it to me.”
The Celebration Day release showcased Led Zeppelin’s most recent concert performance together, with Jason Bonham filling in for his late father along with Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones.
That 2007 appearance at the O2 Arena was one of the few times the group has reconvened since the elder Bonham died in 1980, effectively ending Led Zeppelin. They never recorded again, and seemed to be quite content to perform the odd one-off date (Live Aid, the 40th anniversary of Atlantic Records, Jason Bonham’s wedding reception), but nothing more.
That is, until Celebration Day debuted at the No. 2 slot on the Billboard charts. Now, reunion talk has engulfed each of the members, and continues now — even with various solo projects in the works — seemingly unabated.
Plant is, in fact, at work on a new solo album with producer Buddy Miller, his first since 2010’s Band of Joy. Plant also appeared on three songs from the new studio effort by Band of Joy partner Patty Griffin.
As for reforming with Led Zeppelin, Plant quips: “You need to speak to the Capricorns — because I’ve got nothing to do in 2014.”
