Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio, “Jimmy’s Groove” (2021): One Track Mind

So here’s a trick you could try: play the video above of “Jimmy’s Groove” by the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio and see if you can keep your head or any other body part from nodding or swaying to that groove. Betcha can’t.

“Jimmy’s Groove,” out today, (April 2, 2021, Colemine Records) is about as pure a groove as a song can get. Lamarr does his usual forceful testifyin’ on the Hammond B3 and Jimmy James lays down wholly satisfying old school guitar licks. But it all starts with Dan Weiss’s snare drum pattern that sounds so throwback, yet I can’t put a finger on where it’s throwing back to. That rhythm might be unique.

This was an outtake from the recent rare groove gold mine I Told You So, which really speaks to the quality of the music that actually made it on the record. But I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that this didn’t, unless there was a plot all along to spring this happy surprise and spread good vibes to us all on this Good Friday. Well if that was the plan, it worked to perfection.

Here’s where you can download your own private copy of “Jimmy’s Groove.”
