Robert Fripp announces new King Crimson live set: ‘We’re just completing the mix’

Robert Fripp will release a new live project focusing on King Crimson’s just-completed U.S. tour, and has even revealed one of the featured tracks.

In the video above, he speaks to fans while at work in the studio earlier today, along with Crimson’s Jakko Jakszyk. “We’re just completing the mix on ‘Starless,’ live in Los Angeles,” Fripp says, “and this really is a hummer.”

The newly reconfigured King Crimson played two nights in L.A. as part of these most recent dates. The concert recording, which Fripp says is due to arrive on January 13, 2015 via DGM Live, will be 40-minutes in length. Fripp and Jakszyk were joined by Bill Rieflin and a quartet of previous Crimsos in Mel Collins, Gavin Harrison, Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto.

Collins was part of the group from 1970–72, and returned as guest performer in 1974 during the Red period, from which “Starless” emerged. Levin has been with King Crimson through a trio of stints, in 1981-83, 1994-98 and since 2003. Mastelotto joined in 1994; Harrison followed in 2007.

King Crimson’s Los Angeles set list also included the two-part title track from Larks’ Tongues in Aspic, “21st Century Schizoid Man” and “A Scarcity of Miracles,” which was the title of an earlier trio collaboration between Jakszyk, Fripp and Collins. Fripp and Jakszyk are also working to complete at least three new King Crimson songs, even as plans move forward for a UK tour next year.
