Butcher Brown, “For My Love” from ‘Encore’ EP (2021): Something Else! sneak peek

In the runup to Butcher Brown’s Encore EP slated to land on June 4, 2021, Virginia’s (America’s?) premier funky fusion jazz band today dropped another advance track from it on our laps.

The song is called “For My Love” and it’s another sweet sounding cut from the Browns. Butcher Brown’s sax player MC Marcus ‘Tennishu’ Tenney wrote the tune as a dedication to his wife, describing the song as “Joe Henderson meets Jodeci.” This is a slow — I mean real slow — jam a bit on the Quiet Storm tip, and is built on a three chords sequence repeated over and over, but that’s all that’s needed here.

Tennishu is blowing his horn throughout dipping deep into a well of soul, and Morgan Burrs’ guitar solo is full of tasty little jazz licks. Keyboardist DJ Harrison subtly piles on more chilled synths toward the end until the song nearly dissolves into an ambient haze. That crushed velvet vamp will stick on your brain long after the song is done, and in a good way.

You can pre-order/order Encore right now from Butcher Brown’s Bandcamp page.
