Daryl Hall is at work on new songs, he confirms, though the chances of an album from Hall and Oates remain decidedly remote. Instead, Hall says he’s in the earliest stages of a follow up to his own 2011 studio effort Laughing Down Crying.
“As far as new music goes, I’m trying to get into the studio,” Hall tells The News Journal in New York. “I have a collection of songs that I want to put down, and I’ll be doing that sometime this (coming) year.”
Hall rose to fame along side John Oates, scoring a string of No. 1 hits in the 1970s and ’80s. But their last original album project goes all the way back to 2003 and Do It For Love. They’ve since released two covers-focused projects, one devoted to classic soul and another to Christmas tunes. Otherwise, Hall and Oates have focused on their role as a celebrated concert act.
Oates, more recently, has released the well-received Good Road to Follow set, which started as a series of stand-alone singles. If Hall and Oates undertake a recording project, Hall says, it will similarly avoid the traditional full-length format.
“I’ll be doing stuff with John, too.” Hall adds, talking about tour dates. “I don’t know about recording with John, because he does his stuff on his own, and I do things on my own. But who knows, we might do something together at some point, record a song or two.”
