Projekt Gemineye is never easy listening. Instead, the brainchild of conceptionalist and multi-instrumentalist Mark Anthony K is always compelling – and “Lost Generation” from the forthcoming album Canada: Stories and Legends follows this trend.
“Lost Generation” delves into an era many are unfamiliar with as K tells the story of the forced removal of Indigenous children and their tragic plight. As always in Projekt Gemineye’s efforts, K combines melodic guitar hooks, clear, forceful vocals, and pulsating metal/prog rhythms to tell a chilling story.
Additionally, K continues to further his keyboard game with Geoff Downes-like passages to go with Kerry Livgren-like guitar runs. The result is an effective tease for Canada: Stories and Legends.
At under six minutes, “The Lost Generation” is a fine stand-alone track. Still, I can’t help but be on the edge of my seat knowing it’s part of a greater thematic endeavor. Canada: Stories and Legends is due on Oct. 31, 2024.
