Ask inductee Sammy Hagar who he thinks should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and his answer comes quickly: “Journey; I want to stick up for Journey,” says Hagar, inducted as a member of Van Halen in 2007.
Hagar was part of HSAS with Journey’s Neal Schon in the early 1980s, and welcomed the guitarist as a guest on his latest solo effort, as well. But that’s not why’s he’s lobbying for Journey: “They’ve sold more records than Van Halen, probably by now,” Hagar tells Howard Stern. “They’re still great. They’ve had some of the biggest hits in rock history. C’mon, you don’t get bigger than that.”
Asked by Stern if he thinks he ought to be in as a solo artist, Hagar answers just as promptly: “Yes, I do. Absolutely. I’ve sold about 40 million records, and I’ve been around for 40-something years. I think I belong there, but I’m not begging. Somebody puts me in there, I’ll show up.”
Which is better than you can say for fellow Van Halen members David Lee Roth, Eddie and Alex Van Halen — none of whom were there in ’07. Only Hagar and Michael Anthony, Van Halen’s original bassist, were on hand to accept.

Is there any greater irrelevancy than who’s in/who’s out of the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”?
Journey getting in the rock hall, I have no problem with that. Sammy Hagar selling 40 mil as a solo artist…that is another issue. He sold close to that with van halen and has some platinum and gold records but with montrose and chickenfoot. I think standing hampton, voa and three lock box went platinum of all his pure solo work. Still rich and successful so I forget my point.lol
