Pagan rituals, stupid costumes, and too much candy are all part of my childhood trauma around Halloween. Luckily as an adult, I have learned to enjoy somewhat the music associated with this time of year.
Susie Blue and her band, the Lonesome Fellas, continue to release new music this year and have treated us to the single, “The House is Haunted.” This Mel Torme-composed tune sings with authority. The Lonesome Fellas can rock, roll and swing.
Here, Susie Blue’s ferocious delivery provides a welcome compliment to the twisted rhythm guitar and in-the-pocket rhythm section. Saxophonist Eric Schneider rises to Blue’s challenge by matching the integrity of his solo to that of her vocals.
Fun, convincing and powerful, Susie Blue and the Lonesome Fellas make Halloween – or at least Halloween-inspired music – bearable for me.
