For those who were unsure that Bruce’s interior life had taken decidedly positive turn with the energy of Better Days, “Leap Of Faith” drives it home.
Most of this track isn’t exactly what you’d call subtle (Your legs were heaven your breasts were the alter/your body was the holy land) but hey, romantic happiness is full of joys that are both subtle and simple. The end of the last version says it all
Honey I can fee the first breeze of summer
And in your love I’m born again
As with a lot of the material on this album, the backup singers are there to help Springsteen power through the chorus. They were a definitely highlight of that tour. Musically, I could have used a guitar solo in place of a chorus or two, maybe right after that penultimate verse, where he hangs on “sanctified” with more than a little John Hiatt twang.
Even without that solo, this song was a blast live. Yeah, it wasn’t the E Street band, but we were just happy to have Bruce back.
