‘The problem is we have too many ideas’: Busy Metallica might be ready to make new music again

Metallica has been busy lately, it seems, with everything except new music — something that’s going to change soon, according to guitarist Kirk Hammett.

The band is prepping now for the December 10, 2012 release of Quebec Magnetic, a double-DVD/Blu-ray concert film captured by Wayne Isham during a pair of October 2009 shows in Quebec City. The movie is Metallica’s first-ever self-released effort.

After that, Hammett and Co. have already committed to a 3D movie featuring an August show in Vancouver to be helmed by Nimrod Antal, with a proposed premiere date of Summer 2013.

Hammett himself has just issued a new memorabilia-focused book called Too Much Horror Business — including a suit which legendary actor Boris Karloff wore during the 1934 movie “The Black Cat.”

All of which has some fans saying: What about, you know, the music part of their careers?

“We’re going to seriously start thinking about making a new album soon,” Hammett tells Gary Graff of Billboard. “We have tons of ideas, and that really is never a problem. We never have a lack of ideas — if anything, the problem is we have too many ideas. But, yeah… it’s something we’re gonna start thinking pretty seriously about here. In about a couple months or so we’re gonna seriously start working it out.”
