As a music director, producer, composer, arranger, recording engineer and mixer, Will Régnier has worn many hats in the music world but it’s his acumen as a drummer, percussionist and composer where he is about to make his mark. In the video we’re premiering above, you get to hear a taste of why people should pay attention to this.
Traces is the name of his upcoming debut album, where he leads a quartet of fellow up-and-comers with Yannick Anctil on piano, Marcus Lowry on electric guitar and Alex Le Blanc on double bass. They follow Régnier’s vision with a cooperative spirit.
The instrumental music heard on Traces has a graceful blend of jazz, folk and prog rock/post-rock, not too unlike Brian Blade’s Fellowship band. “Not A Real Place is emblematic of that, a thoughtfully composed piece with drive and behind Lowry’s guitar sting is Régnier’s orchestrating the galvanic rhythmic flow. Room is left for improvisation but Régnier put a lot into the melodic progression of the song, it seems almost through-composed.
Traces will release on February 16th. Get ready to listen to it at these streaming services.
