Adam Lambert says his world tour with Queen has become a melting pot of concertgoers — something that’s been intriguing to observe from on stage.
“I saw a lot of my core audience at the Queen shows, which always brings a smile to my face,” Lambert tells the Backlot. “They’re usually the ones wearing festive outfits and really getting into it. On top of that, I saw a lot of diehard Queen fans. You get a lot of older men who were rock and roll fans since they were in their high school years. So, you get a lot of that demographic too, which is really interesting — because I may not be someone they might be interested in if it had not been for this Queen concert. But from what I’m hearing there’s definitely a stamp of approval, so maybe they’re new fans.”
Many are chalking that up to Lambert’s careful stewardship of the late Freddie Mercury’s legacy. That, despite the fact that Lambert has put his own budding career on hold to take over.
“I’m so honored to be able to sing the songs that he and the band wrote,” Lambert adds, “and try to bring some of the original flavor, the original energy that was brought that I can see when I watch videos and concert footage. My goal is just to do that, to remind people of what the essence of Queen is.”
Queen and Adam Lambert are continuing with shows in Australia and New Zealand this week. Their first appearance together dates back to 2009, and the Idol finale.

Adam definitely is the right fit for frontman. He has one of the best voices in music today with loads of stage presence and charisma. Saw him with Queen earlier this summer and it was a sight to behold and definitely a bucket list event as far as concerts.
I attended the Calgary show on June 26th. There were definitely Queen fans in attendance who only knew Adam as the “Idol singer” but also many Adam fans as well. The combination of Queen + Adam fans made for a great party. Much singing and cheering!!
Queen’s songs are big and Adam has the powerful vocals to do justice to some of the best rock ever written. I can’t wait to see what he does with the third cd. Should be fantastic!
