Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson didn’t wait for inspiration to strike when getting started on the forthcoming solo album Homo Erraticus. In fact, he made an appointment with it.
“Rather than wait for the muse to visit,” Anderson says in this new promo clip, “sometimes you’ve got to go out on a blind date, meet them half way and hope that they turn up. That’s what I did: At 9 a.m. on January the 1st in 2013. I set myself that target, weeks — months — before. ‘That will be Day 1 of starting work to write a new album.'”
Homo Erraticus, due April 14, 2014 via Calliandra-Kscope, eventually emerged as the third project to feature the mythical character Gerald Bostock. His poetry provided the lyrical underpinnings of Jethro Tull’s 1972 album Thick as a Brick, just a it will again on this new solo effort. Anderson again returned to the character for his solo sequel Thick as a Brick 2 in 2012, as well.
The full version of this interview with Anderson will be part of the deluxe edition of Homo Erraticus. The album promises to follow Bostock’s increasing fascination, after a trip to an old library, with Homo Britanicus Erraticus — the unpublished writings of Ernest T. Parritt, an amateur historian.
