Funky and fresh, “Mentiras” finds the Santa Fe-based Nosotros in fine form. The 10-piece band incorporates melodic horns, twangy rhythm guitars and powerful percussion into their new single, which boasts a title translating to “lies” in Spanish.
The lyrics en Espanol are socially conscious and relevant. Additionally, lyricist and MC Daniel French of the group Las Cafeteras provides an English language rap that’s a perfect blend of the relevant and the uplifting.
“Mentiras” was produced by Ozomatli guitarist Raul Pacheco and mixed by Marc Whitmore, known for his Grammy-winning work with Jon Batiste. The result is a three-minute slice of energy. Nosotros delivers what you expect from them, while incorporating new elements from their vast musical playbook.
The song also serves as a call-to-action in this election year, combining fine song craftsmanship with impressive musicianship. Luckily, there will be more singles shortly.
