Nick Finzer has just released the second single from his upcoming new album, Dreams, Visions, Illusions. The composer, educator, band leader and trombonist continues to deliver engaging compositions which challenge both the players and his listeners.
“Waking Up” offers the subtle arrangements and impactful playing of his prior releases, while adding an emotional layer that shows his development as a composer and band leader. Along for the ride is a stellar band which features a prominent role by Lucas Pino on bass clarinet and tenor saxophone on the song.
According to Finzer, “‘Waking Up’ is about not just waking up spiritually to the world – but opening yourself up to the possibilities that exist once you embrace how things are and how you can influence those things instead of trying to change the things you cannot change.”
Listening to Finzer’s trombone solos on “Waking Up” makes you a believer. The song, along with “To Dream a Bigger Dream,” is out now. Dreams, Visions, Illusions is due on April 14.
