So Long Seven, “Mad Nomad,” (2022): Something Else video premiere

A rich blend of bluegrass, Indian folk and chamber jazz, Canada-based So Long Seven picks up where forbear ensembles like Oregon left off.

A mostly acoustic quartet featuring Neil Hendry (guitars, bass), Tim Posgate (banjos), William Lamoureux (violin, viola, guitar, bass) and Ravi Nalmpally (tabla, dumbek, udu, percussion), So Long Seven draws from so many cultures but their greatest strength is putting it all together into a pleasantly soothing alchemy.

The video premiering above provides a nice taste of what So Long Seven is about. This live rendition of “Mad Nomad,” which leans a bit more into Subcontinent music, has the energy of a jig and the spirituality of an Indian raga. To add to the exotic flavor, they brought in the very talented Samidha Joglekar to sing in the traditional Carnatic style.

By the way, this group is about to come out with their latest long player only elephants know her name, which features Joglekar on one track and additional strings for three more.

So Long Seven’s only elephants know her name will go on sale everywhere on September 30, 2022
