For the past year, Rich Turgeon has been posting digital-download singles on the average of every couple of weeks. The San Francisco Bay-area singer, tunesmith and multi-diversified instrumentalist also claims four studio albums to his name.
While the bulk of Turgeon’s efforts are original songs – promoting the joint influence of roots rock and power pop –- he occasionally dips into other genres and records cover versions. Armed with unlimited talent on all accounts, Turgeon succeeds at any given style.
Turgeon’s most recent single, “Parasite,” is a self-composed piece of straight-up hard rock. Recited in a stadium-sized leer that firmly pushes the point home, the track oscillates to a headbanging happening of fizzing guitar chords, snug hooks and a vicious backbeat. A concise arrangement and a snappy ending further cement the high-energy song.
A great addition to Richard Turgeon’s consistently-expanding catalog, “Parasite” not only magnifies his gift for writing and playing music that calls for an immediate reaction, but represents the finest aspects of heavyweight rock and roll.
