Andy Fraser and Metroluxe, “Get Some” (2021): One Track Mind

Andy Fraser is a composer, producer, musician who recently started Fresh Chilli Music for emerging artists to professionalize their work primarily through composition, recording, arrangement and production support. He also put a collective together to showcase local talent and demonstrate the potential of collaborative working in difficult times.

The group consists of Fraser (Caaw), Matt Clark (Matt Clark Three), Mark Wilson (Caaw) and Nick White on keyboards, alongside multi-instrumentalist Charlotte Glasson (The Divine Comedy, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds) and singer Sam Carelse (Soultastics, the Les Paul Big Band). Both women are formidable musicians, and Fraser was thrilled to have them involved in performing the song.

They have called themselves Metroluxe, and “Get Some” is the collective’s way of looking forward – to enjoying playing and dancing and generally getting back into some kind of normality again. “It’s exhausting, and I still struggle to pay the rent,” Fraser admits, “but it’s an exciting and heart-warming adventure meeting, collaborating with and producing great talent.”

His main worry is that he did justice to the quality of the performers, but he need not have worried. This single is classy, well-produced and features some stellar vocal work and wonderful sax and flutes from Glasson. Swingy, slightly sleazy (in a good way), Metroluxe’s “Get Some” is a cheeky mix of swing and good old fashioned solid jazz. It’s uplifting and talks of dancing, going downtown and romancing – all things we can perhaps look forward to, and this track makes it feel just a little bit closer.

Metroluxe is another example of a project which has taken place during lockdown where creative people with a vision make good use of local musicians who populate many local scenes and bring them together with musicians who have had less exposure but still add color and richness to the music scene. “Get Some” is the kind of thing that creates hope and a certainty that music will come back – live, kicking, and so so good.
