It seems like Richard Turgeon releases a new download single every couple of weeks. Quality equals quantity when it comes to the San Francisco Bay area singer, songwriter and multiple-instrumentalist’s work: His latest venture, “My Guitar,” pins a subsequent gold star onto his remarkable track record.
Pinching a page in the book from the Beach Boys, select segments of “My Guitar” recall a rocked-up version of “Don’t Worry, Baby.” Couched within and around the song are uniquely intricate hooks and hues, as well as a shapely break. Operating in expectedly excellent form, Turgeon’s vocals are strong, disciplined and glowing with sun-dappled harmony.
The result is a love letter to Richard Turgeon’s six-string, featuring cool lyrics that any fretboard obsessive can relate to. It makes perfect sense how musicians look upon their instruments as trusted friends, and here’s a song that fully expresses such a sentiment.
A lot of thought and effort was put into “My Guitar,” which Turgeon states was inspired by the keen production techniques of Brian Wilson. His goal to create a tapestry of sonic delights has certainly been reached. Bravo!
