The last thing jazz enthusiasts have any right to ask for is new music from the prolific David Garfield.
In the previous two years, the prolific songwriter-producer-keyboardist has given us no less than three Outside the Box albums, as well as a slew of singles and offshoot projects. Given these troubled times, however, the comfort that has afforded us is undoubtedly welcome.
David Garfield’s new single is just the musical medicine we need. Featured on the upcoming Stretchin’ Outside the Box, “Sir Charles” features the Rippingtons’ Brandon Fields on tenor sax and guitarist Grant Geissman. The three dance with the breezy rhythm, which evokes the escape of a sun-drenched Caribbean island. Garfield even evokes a pan-drum motif inspired by his long-time friend Vince Charles, who played with Herb Albert.
The effect is another stellar collaboration with David Garfield, whose songwriting, production and keyboard skills are front and center. I’m looking forward to the release of Stretchin’ Outside the Box now more than ever.
