As a youngster, Joe Sofra played in a number of successful Melbourne, Australia bands. But he eventually left the music scene altogether, and for the past several decades has been working in real estate. Along the way, Joe also married and raised a family.
However, Joe Sofra never lost his passion for music, and now here he is, 76 years of age, releasing his very first single.
Co-authored by Sofra and noted local musician and producer Joe Mandica, “One of Those Things” is a catchy little country tune that recounts an experience of meeting a lady in a bar and what develops from there.
Joe Sofra’s deep and burly vocals sound like a cross between Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley, and he navigates “One of Those Things” with intimacy and assurance. Not too fast and not too slow, the song is evenly paced.
As Joe shares his story about the woman he mingles with, a crack band wields their wizardry to the tone of a whining pedal steel guitar, twangy electric guitar, stirring piano thrills and steady drumming. A spot of sweet Buddy Holly-styled harmonies further complete the song.
Congratulations, Joe Sofra, for following your muse and cutting such a fine debut single in the process. Hopefully, “One of Those Things” is just the beginning of many more great songs to come.
