Richard Turgeon, “22” (2020): One Track Mind

While Richard Turgeon is recognized for his great original material, the San Francisco Bay Area musical jack-of-all-trades occasionally rolls out a cover tune. And that brings us to Turgeon’s latest single – a remake of “22,” which was initially written and recorded by Potty Mouth.

Remaining age 21 for eternity and not having to grow up and mature is what “22” is all about. “Don’t you think it’s strange that number’s just an age but it changes you?” one of the lyrics wisely asks. “Well, I could get my act together but it’s still just an act,” states another clever line.

Turgeon’s energetic delivery of “22” is right in sync with its youth-obsessed theme. Jittery vocals, matched by herky-jerky rhythms and spiky hooks, supply the sentiment with a punky new-wave feel. The beat is infectious and a nerve-jangling edge adds an extra dash of excitement to the effort.

An enthused treatment of an already cool song, “22” is available as a digital download, along with a plethora of Richard Turgeon’s other singles that are scheduled to be included on his soon-to-be-released fourth studio album.
