Toto’s Steve Lukather-sung “Sunshine of Your Love” is perhaps the boldest cover on 2002’s Through the Looking Glass. Lukather and drummer Simon Phillips changed the song’s time signature to give the classic Cream favorite a different edge and feel.
Additionally, Phillips provided various loops, and David Paich and Steve Lukather created keyboard parts to further move the song into the 21st Century. The groove is razor-sharp, and Lukather provides bluesy vocals along with backing singer Monet.
Lukather tops things off with a fine ending solo that his guitar hero, Cream’s Eric Clapton. would be proud of. “Sunshine of Your Love” is bold in concept and brilliant in execution.
