“No Way We Can Lose,” from Yes’ 1997 album Open Your Eyes, benefits from strong harmony lead vocals from Jon Anderson and Chris Squire. Billy Sherwood also works his backing arrangement magic of the Yes choir, which adds wonders to the song.
Unfortunately, this selection from Open Your Eyes has few progressive elements.
Igor Khoroshev, Yes’ new keyboardist, adds tasty Hammond organ parts, in addition to melodica sounding keyboard passages. Additionally, Billy Sherwood and Steve Howe provide acoustic and electric guitar parts, which are strong.
Despite the good playing, however, “No Way We Can Lose” never rises beyond the sum of its musical parts – nor can the song overcome its rather pedestrian lyrics.
