Here’s the latest on that new CD/DVD, tour dates from Jon Anderson and Jean-Luc Ponty

As publicized last year, legends from the prog rock and jazz-rock arenas have come together to realize an idea first discussed thirty years ago. Jon Anderson and Jean-Luc Ponty have pooled their singing, songwriting and violin talents to form the AndersonPonty Band.

This band had already played live dates and and raised funds for an album via Kickstarter. Today comes word that this album, a CD/DVD package called Better Late Than Never, will become available in early Fall 2015, and some North American tour dates covering late October/November have been announced; see below for the details.

The aptly titled Better Late Than Never captures one of their live performances from September 2014 at Aspen Colorado’s Wheeler Opera House, and will feature new arrangements of classic YES songs such as “Owner Of A Lonely Heart”, “Roundabout” and “Wonderous Stories,” as well as a rewrite of Ponty’s classic “Mirage” tune titled “Infinite Mirage.”

Jon Anderson and Jean-Luc Ponty are backed by Rayford Griffin on drums, Jamie Glaser on guitar, Wally Minko on keys and Baron Browne on bass. Ponty fans will recall all their past memberships in Ponty’s bands and key contributions to Ponty albums from the 80s and early 90s; these guys are all virtuosic in their own right. Combined with Jon Anderson’s still-vibrant vocals and Jean-Luc Ponty’s world-class violin, the AndersonPonty Band packs a lot of potency.
