Yoko Ono’s Meltdown Festival opened Friday, with a gala closing performance of her entire 1980 Double Fantasy collaboration with John Lennon planned for Sunday, June 23, 2013.

“It’s the first time that Double Fantasy has been played in a concert situation,” Ono says in the attached BBC video. “So, let’s see what happens.”

Ono has been appearing with a reworked version of her old Plastic Ono Band, featuring son Sean Ono Lennon and others. Double Fantasy, Lennon’s first album after taking five years away to focus on raising Sean, arrived just two weeks before a deranged fan murdered the former Beatles star.

“It was really very beautiful; we enjoyed it so much,” Ono adds. “We didn’t know that that was going to be our last album. We didn’t know the ending of it. That’s incredible, isn’t it? That we didn’t know?”

Also slated for Meltdown this year are Patti Smith; Siouxsie, in her first concert in five years; as well as Iggy and the Stooges.
