“Upon Arrival” is an upbeat Chicago song with a nice arrangement. It’s a shame Peter Cetera and Robert Lamm didn’t work together more often.
It’s strangely fitting that the Grammy nomination for ‘Chicago XIV’ recogonized John Berg’s artwork, and not the music.
Chicago got in their own way once again, as Donnie Dacus’s vocals marred an otherwise enjoyable song.
“Run Away” could have been relatively successful as a single. However, with Chicago we expect more – much more.
“Life Is What It Is” doesn’t sound like it belongs on the stink-fest that is 1979’s ‘Chicago 13.’
Peter Cetera’s “Loser with a Broken Heart” is a low-quality song that had no business making ‘Chicago 13.’
Sadly, “Reruns” is another reminder of where Chicago was heading in their not-too-distant future.
“Aloha Mama,” from the broadly disappointing ‘Chicago 13,’ is a fantastic song – until Peter Cetera starts singing.
There’s a reason why the song Chicago wrote for Sylvester Stallone’s 1978 film ‘Paradise Alley’ was left on the cutting-room floor.
