Pianist and composer David Ake continues to make his infrequent releases count. ‘Green Thumb’ is plenty good enough the savor until Mr. Ake is ready to make another quality collection of modern and mainstream jazz.
Sublime simplicity comes from attention to detail, a Bill Frisell hallmark found all over ‘Valentine.’ It’s another fine entry point into his massive discography.
Just because Rudresh Mahanthappa took a break from composing for this project doesn’t mean he took a break from creating.

With a classic tenor sax tone, top drawer backing band and great tunes and arrangements all present in ‘Gratitude’, it’s just hard to go wrong with this record.

The way trumpet ace Joe Magnarelli’s band members interact each other so well makes ‘Three On Two’ a gratifying way to experience mainstream jazz.
