Some might quibble over whether this is contemporary, smooth or crossover jazz. It’s actually a hybrid from Everette Harp, Jeff Lorber and Paul Jackson Jr.
Jeff Lorber is happy to share the names of all those who inspired and influenced him, but trying to get him to narrow things down is a challenge.
‘Space-Time’ doesn’t miss a beat – or a luscious lick or a great groove. It’s more of the same ol’ Jeff Lorber Fusion, and that’s just fine.
Smooth jazz is usually dismissed as soporific melodies played by an anonymous instrumentalist with programmed rhythms. None of this is that.
What we get from fusion icons Mike Stern and Jeff Lorber are the best of both worlds and that’s the strongest reason why ‘Eleven’ merits a lot of listens.

Truth is, funk-jazz keyboardist, composer and producer Jeff Lorber has been prototyping since the late ’70s.
