Coming off an insanely good solo album called Terroir, Julie Slick is hoping to crowd-fund an East Coast tour for the newest project she’s involved with, called Springs. Already, her Kickstarter campaign has drawn 36 backers — bringing the group within 5,000 of its goal. Deadline is April 1, 2013.
“We’ve been incubating all winter long, working on all of these new songs,” Slick says in the accompanying video, “and we just want to play them for you.”
Mike Visser began collaborating with Slick and her brother Eric a couple of years ago, and both are featured as part of a new eponymous Springs studio effort.
Donations of $5 or more to the campaign receive a free download of the Springs song “Game of I Don’t Know.” Ten dollars or more earns the backer a download of the album Springs, as well. Donations of $25 or more receive a signed copy. The incentives continue through to the $2,000 or more level, which will earn the donor a private, catered concert from Springs.
The touring group will include Visser, Julie Slick and Claire Wadsworth, along with Eric — who helped complete the original lineup of the Adrian Belew Power Trio with Julie back in 2006 — set to make a few special appearances. Springs’ upcoming summer dates are to feature selections from the new self-titled release, music from Terroir, and solo tracks from Visser and Wadsworth, as well.
Slick recently returned from a quick Far East tour with Belew, held in tandem with the Stick Men and dubbed the Crimson Projekct. Like Belew, Tony Levin and Pat Mastellotto from the Stick Men are alumni of King Crimson.
