Rod Stewart is offering a preview track from his forthcoming album of original pop music as part of the download for a new Yuletide project called Merry Christmas, Baby. But you can stream “Beautiful Morning” here now!
Stewart, of course, has spent the last decade revisiting older music through his Great American Songbook series. 2002’s It Had to Be You, which began the series went to No. 5. As Time Goes By followed in 2003, then Stardust in 2004, and Thanks for the Memory in 2005.
Stewart issued Still the Same: Great Rock Classics and Soulbook before returning to his best-selling Songbook concept with Fly Me to the Moon — which sent to No. 4 in 2010. In all, his Songbook series have sold nearly 11 million copies in the U.S. alone.
Merry Christmas, Baby, which got a big push last week when Stewart appeared on HSN, is expected to debut in the Top 10 on the Billboard charts. That would be the 16th time Stewart has accomplished that, with seven of them coming since 2002 — or what long-time fans might forever refer to as the Songbook era.
Stewart’s last album of original pop songs was all the way back in 2001, with Human. The new Stewart album, to be called simply Rock, is due in 2013.
