When both (Something Else! cohort) S. Victor Aaron and myself have a hard time defining a singer’s style, that can only mean one thing: there’s a lot going on in that voice. True enough, my review of her 2010 album Deeper and Vic’s take on 2012’s Unison both contained an unusual amount of name-checking. Norah Jones to Joni Mitchell to Annette Peacock to Bjork — those varied styles still kept us an arm’s length from the mysterious essence of Neckam’s voice.
It’s a beautiful thing.
With the release of the official video for “I Miss You,” it seemed like the appropriate time to celebrate her sound, this time with more pop leanings.
