Watch as Canadian fans create Instagram lyric video for Bob Dylan’s “Duquesne Whistle”

Canadian fans, in a canny update of Bob Dylan’s legendary placard-holding film for “Subterranean Homesick Blues,” were asked to send in Instagram photos to create a new lyric video for “Duquesne Whistle.” Watch it here!

Sony Music collected the images and has now released the video, in honor of Dylan’s 50th anniversary. “Duquesne Whistle” is the opening track on Dylan’s 35th studio release, the 10-song, self-produced Tempest, released in September.

Tempest also includes a pair of epic story songs, including a 14-minute track devoted to the sinking of the Titanic. Dylan had previously referenced the doomed ship during “Desolation Row,” the legendary closing song off 1965’s Highway 61 Revisited.

[SOMETHING ELSE! REWIND: We reluctantly delved into our five least favorite Bob Dylan songs, and managed to enrage a whole lot of Dylan fans along the way. And we do mean, a whole lot.]

The 70-something Dylan is in the midst of an ongoing tour as well, having already played in Europe before hitting North America. He is set to return to the UK in 2013.

This is Dylan’s first new music since 2009’s Together Through Life, a million-selling hit that became the legendary singer-songwriters first-ever album to debut at No. 1 on the charts in both America and England.
