Ever go to a gig where the band shows up late? That’s what happened to Kait Dunton and her trioKAIT threesome in the video debuting above, but just making it there is the exploit played out over the four-and-a-half minute Dunton original.
“Chrysocolla” is the third track from Dunton’s terrific new third long player trioKAIT and it percolates with a purpose. As I opined in a full album review of trioKAIT it’s “just the kind of piano trio song that will make you get speeding ticket listening to it in the car,” only in the video our protagonists (Kait Dunton, bassist Cooper Appelt and drummer Jake Reed) blow out a tire instead. But I don’t want to give away the whole plot here, just know that the awkward beginning makes sense once you see the whole adventure unfold.
And if the story falls flat with some, the music — a fun adventure itself — surely won’t.
If you’re in the Los Angeles area Thursday night (August 5, 2015), it might do you some good to satisfy your soul and catch Kait Dunton and trioKAIT’s album release party at the blue whale jazz club. Show starts at 9.
