Journey’s Arnel Pineda is hoping to raise enough money to buy 2 million meals to aid his native countrymen in the Philippines after a devastating typhoon earlier this month.
Pineda, speaking with Anderson Cooper, says: “The heartache is indescribable. No words can say how much I feel for that. I was kind of depressed for a couple of days, because you don’t know what to do — you don’t know how to help.”
Journey started with a $350,000 gift to the UN World Food Programme, which organizers said would help fund more than 1.4 million meals for needy Filipinos. Now, the group has its eyes on an even larger donation — and they need your help: Fans can join in their efforts via www.wfpusa.org/journey or by texting “AID” to 27722 to donate $10.
Super Typhoon Haiyan swept across the Philippines on November 8, 2013, leaving as many as 615,000 people without shelter — and thousands more dead.
Pineda joined Journey in 2007, taking over frontman duties for a group that soared to platinum status behind Steve Perry over a 10-year period beginning in the late 1970s. He’s since contributed to two Journey studio albums, including 2011’s Eclipse.
Journey also released a 2009 homecoming concert with Pineda, called Live in Manila.
