Alabaster DePlume, “Bringing Up the Nakba” from ‘Dear Children of Our Children, I Knew: Epilogue’ (2026): Something Else! sneak peek

More music is coming forth from one of the more interesting, dauntless musicians on the experimental folk-world-jazz-pop scene. That’s a lot of words to describe the ‘scene’ but Alabaster DePlume defies neat categorization. He’s a singer, songwriter, singer, saxophonist, poet, activist and philosopher and he puts everything into whatever hat he wears (sometimes several at once) while blazing his own path.

For this moment, we’re spotlighting DePlume, the saxophone player. “Bringing Up the Nakba” is an advance single from DePlume’s upcoming EP of instrumentals Dear Children of Our Children, I Knew: Epilogue, dropping on May 5, 2026 in digital format only from International Anthem Recording Co..

A saxophone that would sound right at home in Paul Whiteman’s band in 1926 is cleverly deployed in 2026 that’s very much contemporary. Using a Carnatic-flavored riff as a foundation, DePlume uses looping and a woolly sonority over a drums and string bass slow roll as some restlessness eventually seeps in and then quietly backs away by the end.
