Shawn Lee and Kelly Finnigan, “Say It Again”(2025): One Track Mind

Young Gun Silver Fox might be the highest profile project Shawn Lee is involved with at the moment, but it’s hardly his only one. The affable, talented American-born London resident likes to indulge his wide musical tastes and multi-instrumentalist skills by working with collaborators from all over.

His latest such alliance is with San Francisco Bay are singer and keyboardist Kelly Finnigan. The son of another singer/keyboardist who worked with Jimi Hendrix and Joe Cocker, the younger Finnigan made his own mark as the lead singer of the Bay area pysch-soul band The Monophonics.

“Say It Again,” from Colemine Records, (video above) is the first result of them working together to make music (Lee has previously recorded and toured with the Monophonics). While it’s available for streaming now via YouTube, Colemine Records will put out a 45rpm vinyl on September 19 2025.

The song definitely has 70s Isley Brothers vibes to it but some echoes of 60s Stax as well. Finnigan’s voice hearkens back to the great soul shouters of that earlier period and Lee’s reverb-heavy production is the right backdrop for it.

Unlike most singles, the announcement of “Say It Again” wasn’t paired with the announcement of a whole album together but based on what we hear here, we should hope for one.

Pre-order the “Say It Again” 45 from here.
