Longtime acclaimed folk singer-songwriter Seth Walker returns, giving us more reasons to not get too uptight about life. A familiar, comforting message re-emerges out of a new song from his upcoming album Why The Worry, which is also the name of that song.
In keeping with his three-year gap cadence between releases,Why The Worry is gonna be his first long player since 2022’s I Hope I Know. The single follows two other advance tunes, the chugging, funky number Up On The Mountain and a graceful, bucolic Michael Kiwanuka cover “I’m Getting Ready.” “Why The Worry” leans more in the soul-blues direction; you can enjoy it with the animated video above, put together by Miranda Peterson.
For the title tune, Walker — a first-rate songwriter — join forces with another first-rate songwriter in Oliver Wood. Co-produced by Jano Rix, it indeed wouldn’t sound out of place on a Wood Brothers album. The two acts frolic in the same corner of modern Americana, so it’s a collaboration that makes too much sense. Walker plainly sings of the futility of fretting over things we can’t control: “Only God knows the end of your story so why worry?” It’s interspersed with tasty guitar blues licks, and the production is crisp.
Why The Worry is set to drop on April 4, 2025, from Royal Potato Family. Pre-order/order it from Bandcamp.
