The Kings of neo-Yacht Rock did it again, they put out another winner of a song. No, really.
“Winners” is the second advance single from Young Gun Silver Fox’s upcoming album Ticket to Shangri La (October 21, 2022, Mixto Records), a mid-summer breeze to go along with their early summer banger “West Side Jet.”
It’s the kind of mid-tempo funk syncopation that probably traces its lineage back to Earth, Wind & Fire’s 1976 hit “Can’t Hide Love” and effectively emulated by smooth RnB acts like Kool & the Gang and Bobby Caldwell, never failing to make the head nod and the toes tap. In front of Shawn Lee’s shades-of-Verdine White bass line and Andy Platts’ crushed velvet Fender Rhodes is Platts’ pleasing soul crooning, with harmony vocals that nearly steal the show.
It’s just another effortlessly gratifying soft-rock tune from the talented ambassadors from 1979, Young Gun Silver Fox.
