For the past several months, Richard Turgeon has been spawning a constant flow of download singles split between cover versions and original material.
A new self-composed piece called “Goodbye to Summer” counts as Turgein’s current effort, which bids farewell to a relationship and employs the change of seasons as a figure of speech.
Not your typical bitter-and-blue break up song, “Goodbye to Summer” favors an energetic stance, fashioned of clanging and jangling power popping chords marinated in coiling hooks and a strapping chorus. Even the lyrics bend towards a brightness, expressing that warm and fond memories remain even though the partnership ended.
“Goodbye to Summer” is conducted by Turgeon’s rock solid vocals and splashed with a rootsy edge, displaying the San Francisco Ba- area musician’s immeasurable skills for writing, arranging and performing accessible songs.
Given the fact Richard Turgeon has released four fantastic full-length albums and swarms of equally excellent singles, he really should be a household name at this point. Perhaps “Goodbye to Summer” will do the trick and reward him with the widespread audience he so greatly deserves.
