Seth Walker, “We Got This” (2020): One Track Mind

We faced much adversity before. We persevered each time. We got this.

That’s the message from the new single and video (above) that Seth Walker had just released. “We Got This” is a song that’s actually been knocking around inside this folk troubadour’s head for a time, but COVID-19 pushed him to finish it and ‘lay it to wax’ with an assist from Jano Rix of The Wood Brothers.

The arrangement of this song is absolutely spot-on. Seth Walker uses his trusty acoustic guitar as a percussion instrument along with some well-placed handclaps, and a standup bass and a spare piano are pretty much the only other accompaniment. That puts Walker’s weary vocals right up front where his directive of hope is the song.

The video delivers that message in a creative way: flashing images and footage from past times of trouble and manipulating those images to sing Walker’s reassuring lyrics. It’s hard not to miss the takeaway spelled out in the title of the song when you see that.

So as we head into the unofficial start of a summer turned upside down, it’s helpful to remember that during this fog of uncertainty and despair we’ve been faced with for months now we’re going to come out the other side of this. Seth Walker reminds us that all we have to do is look back at our history to know that “We Got This”.
