trioKAIT 2 was released last spring, but that doesn’t mean that Kait Dunton and her sharp, small squad aren’t done creating some buzz with it. The album notched a 4-1/2 star rating from no less than DownBeat magazine and now the troupe has just made a new video from this latest release.
“OCD,” like most of the album, is Dunton ‘going electric’ and though she’s shunned the Rhodes for most of her career, it’s plain to see in the video above she’s warmed up to it quickly. Taking advantage of wah-wah effects first foisted on the electric piano back in the early 70s, Dunton’s fuzzy tones make “OCD” a funky number that elicits memories of a sadly bygone era of adventurous fusion.
Toss in Jake Reed’s unconventional time signature and Cooper Appelt’s bass running like a locomotive, and it’s a funky number that’s anything but light. “OCD” is — dare I say it? — outta sight.
