The riff blasted from a baritone sax and the basis for a brash beat instigated Stanton Moore’s kick-drum forms the bedrock for that this crisp, fresh dallop of a danceable ditty. This mixture of hip-hop and 70s horn-driven funk-jazz with Ms. Charm Taylor’s swaggering vocal sounds like a organic reworking of Nenah Cherry’s Raw Like Sushi.
It’s “Right On,” an advance stream from Galactic’s upcoming album Into The Deep, due out July 17, 2015 from Provogue Records. That’s only a couple of years following the Mardi Gras celebration Carnivale Electricos, and like that album, features star guest collaborators such as JJ Grey and Macy Gray.
Now going on twenty years, the premier funk collective from Nawlins Galactic shows no mercy in their quest for the rare groove, one that manages to strike a balance between being old school hip and new school hip while never forsaking their jazz and Big Easy heritage.
The boys have already hit the road and since their live shows are legendary, you’d do good not to miss one if they roll into your town. Check here for tour dates.
