Slated to appear on Jon Kanis’ upcoming album Fundamentalism Is The Only Way, “Make A Wish” which consolidates poetic flash with musical aesthetics to mood-altering effects.
Centered on the stark and strummy sound of an acoustic guitar, the song is punctured with puffy and polished background harmonies, providing a nice contrast and balance of bare-bones folk rock and shrewdly-constructed pop. Executed with courage and confidence, this track is also highlighted by Jon’s gritty but grand vocals that boldly drive the message home.
Frugally arranged, yet intense, “Make A Wish” is a real keeper. And if it’s any indicator of what Fundamentalism Is The Only Way offers, we can look forward to a whole set of melodiously mindful songs. So, until the album arrives, savor this song and don’t forget to check out Jon’s previous recordings if you haven’t done so already.
