ELO’s Jeff Lynne has had plenty of time to take stock recently, even as he’s hinted at the completion of some of his first new solo music since his often-overlooked debut Armchair Theatre.
That 1990 project was, in fact, part of a flurry of recent reissues which also included the 2001 Electric Light Orchestra album Zoom, as well as a difficult-to-find ELO concert set called Electric Light Orchestra Live. Prior to that, Lynne busied himself with a note-for-note re-recording of some of ELO’s signature moments titled Mr. Blue Sky.
Lynne seems to have emerged, based on his comments in this newly posted Adam Weissler talk, with a new sense of perspective.
“I am amazed that it’s lasted this long,” Lynne of his musical contributions. “So, I think it will last a bit longer. I’ve got a feeling it will, because there are certain elements of it like ‘Mr. Blue Sky’ that never seem to go out of fashion. It always becomes popular. A lot of kids, like my friends’ kids, they’ve started listening to my stuff, as well. And that’s a great thing, because I’d love for them to get into it — and to just listen to what it was all about.”
Lynne has also issued an album of cover tunes from his youth, titled Long Wave, and overseen the latest solo effort from the Eagles’ Joe Walsh — adding another name to a list of production credits that includes George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Paul McCartney and the Traveling Wilburys.
As for his new stuff, Lynne said last September that he had already completed work on as many as eight new songs.

If you ever read this — one more time mate! Put the ELO back together and do a final album for the fans.
Tour and give us a final goodbye! Album Title: ”Over England,” with the ELO saucer over the stately homes of England — pure theatre with gigs.
It would be magic.
Concerts in Europe please, Denmark 🙂 Jeff Lynnes music will last forever. Love it!
