‘It speaks for itself, his voice’: Queen’s Brian May calls Adam Lambert one in a billion talent

Brian May, who worked for decades alongside Freddie Mercury in Queen, knows a thing or two about vocalists. So when he talks about Adam Lambert, with whom the band just made its U.S. debut, it resonates.

“He’s extraordinary,” May says in this iHeart clip. “It speaks for itself, his voice. That’s one voice in a billion. Adam can do things which really I have never heard anyone else ever do in my life.”

Queen began with Mercury in 1970, and continued with him as their flamboyant frontman until Mercury was felled by AIDS-related illness in 1991. Since, Queen has worked with a number of other singers, notably Paul Rodgers, but none as long as Lambert.

Their Vegas date from earlier this month, the first-ever in the States, will be rebroadcast tonight (October 1, 2013) on the CW at 8 Eastern/7 Central — with Lambert promising that “it will be different than the live stream footage.”

Queen first took the stage alongside Lambert in 2009, during the finale of the American Idol singing program. May and Roger Taylor, the band’s original drummer, have since worked with Lambert at the 2011 EMAs and in a series of European dates last summer.

  1. His voice is amazing. I’ve never heard anyone like him either. That’s the first thing I’m attracted from him.

  2. I agree, kit, Adam’s voice is the hook. The performance, looks and personality follow close behind once you hear his vocal talents.

  3. The women talking incessantly in the background are so irritating. Why bother staying for the Queen concert if you’re going to talk through the entire song?

  4. I only watched on-line but Adam is incredible. Too bad Fun got so much of Queen’s performance. I was so disappointed. It was nice that Queen and Adam were asked to perform.

  5. I’ve been following Adam since day 1 on idol audition. He just gets better and better. IMO no-one can sing like Adam today. He’s been ignored far too long in this country. Never lipsyncs, never needs autotuned, just pure unbelievable vocal talent and mesmorizing on stage. Did I mention gorgeous and sexy also.
