This angular and exciting track, featuring a tornadic assist from violinist Jerry Goodman, opens bassist Antoine Fafard’s terrific new prog/fusion album Occultus Tramitis.
The ex-Mahavishnu Orchestra star is joined by a constellation of name drummers across this 11-track journey. Among those Fafard collaborates with here are musicians who have made important earlier contributions to the work of King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Toto, Jeff Beck, Porcupine Tree and Chick Corea — including Terry Bozzio, Gavin Harrison, Simon Phillips, Chad Wackerman and Dave Weckl.
Goodman, however, is Fafard’s principal foil, appearing on more than half of the Occultus Tramitis tracks.
This is Fafard’s initial release since 2011’s Solus Operandi, a solo debut that also featured Weckl. He had previously led the band Spaced Out since 2000, issuing five studio efforts.
