Sample a swirling bit of prog-fusion psychedelia from Nektar, as the band gets set to release its first album of all new material in five years and then hit the road for a 12-date U.S. tour later in the month.
This exclusive stream features original members Roye Albrighton (guitar/vocals) and Ron Howden (drums), in a project produced by Billy Sherwood. Albrighton fired up Nektar again back in 2000, after suffering life-threatening liver problems. Since, they’ve been joined by keyboardist Klaus Hentasch and bassist Lux Vibratus.
[SOMETHING ELSE! INTERVIEW: Roye Albrighton discusses some of Nektar’s signature prog-rock moments, its continuing focus on the groove and early advocacy for the environment.]
“Juggernaut,” which at one point was rumored to be the title track for this new release from Cleopatra’s Purple Pyramid imprint, features a lengthy interplay between Albrighton and Hentasch — even as Vibratus and long-time drummer Ron Howden lay down a propulsive cadence.
It’s but one highlight on the forthcoming Time Machine; Nektar’s 13th studio release is due next week. Their last album of original songs was 2008’s Book of Days. Albrighton and Co. then released Spoonful of Time, an album of cover songs, last year. Albrighton was also part of 2012’s Songs of the Century Supertramp tribute.
Nektar’s forthcoming American concerts, which begin on June 20, 2013, will include performances of their classic Remember the Future project, in a honor of its 40th anniversary.
