‘It’s pretty cool’: Healthy again, Timothy B. Schmit celebrates return to the road with Eagles

As the Eagles get set for a summer tour, Timothy B. Schmit can’t help but wonder at it all. Just months after a sudden bout with cancer, the honey-voiced bassist has made a stirring recovery.

He’ll have plenty of people pulling for him at local music venues all over North America.

“There are about three generations that come to our shows now,” Schmit tells On Native Ground, in the video below. “A lot of people say, ‘I grew up with your music,’ and then they bring in their kids. So, it’s pretty great.”

Schmit and Co. kick off their new concert series in July at Louisville, with dates in Canada and along the East Coast to follow. The tour is called “The History of the Eagles,” after the recent documentary on the band.

Of course, that history includes a lengthy layoff for the Eagles in the 1980s, at least one nasty departure, and then that recent health scare for Schmit — who sounds nothing if not grateful to get back to work.

“I’m 65 years old,” Schmit adds. “I never would have thought, when I was in my 20s, that I would be doing this — being able to sell out arenas. It’s pretty cool.”
